Runescape Classic
RuneScape as players currently know it is not
the first version of the game. The first RuneScape, now
referred to as RuneScape Classic, was introduced a few years
before RuneScape 2, the game that is currently known as
RuneScape today.
RuneScape Classic is still playable by
paying members of the RuneScape community and can be
accessed from the official RuneScape website at www.runescape.com.
The link to RuneScape Classic is located near the bottom of
the left-hand navigation block.
The world of RuneScape Classic is similar to a portion of
the current RuneScape world, although some areas have been
changed or more redefined. Names and city layouts have
changed, monsters have migrated to new territories,
characters may or may not be the same, and shops have
different inventories. Players familiar with the central
area of RuneScape stretching from the tree gnome stronghold
to Varrock and Al Kharid will be able to navigate through
the world of RuneScape Classic without any difficulty.
Players can transfer their characters back and forth between
the two games without losing any items or equipment; however,
they will find that their level may change slightly. This is
due to the level balancing in RuneScape Classic. The player
isn’t really losing any experience or levels; the Classic
version of the game simply uses a slightly different level-measuring
calculation.
So what’s different between the two versions of the game?
The current version of RuneScape is much more expansive,
featuring a larger world, more quests, many new items,
weapons, and armor, and a variety of new monsters. New
skills have been added, some deleted, and some tweaked to
produce a more balanced effect.
Despite these many differences, however, the general
gameplay of RuneScape Classic and RuneScape 2 is nearly the
same. Players still immerse themselves in a magical,
medieval world full of dangerous beasts, powerful sorcery,
and exciting adventures. The player dynamic, also, has not
changed, with both versions of the game featuring friendly
clans, helpful experienced players, and a thriving player-based
economy.
Some players may feel like the new version of RuneScape has
much more to offer because it’s more expansive and features
more quests. Other players, however, especially those who
began their adventure playing RuneScape Classic, have a soft
spot for the original game and enjoy playing it. Both games
are great fun, and no matter which players chose to play, or
if they enjoy playing both, one thing remains the same:
RuneScape and RuneScape Classic are both amazing
games that allow players to leave the real world behind for
a little while.
